Leyla and I spent much of the Christmas season under the starcloth of the Bloomsbury Big Top. Most nights we were performers in Cirque Extraordinaire - a dinner show with aerialists and acrobats from around the world. But one night we joined theatre company Les Enfants Terribles and band Tankus the Henge to create "Tonight at the Empire" - a theatrical circus show.

Switch - Epigenetics illustrated through aerial dance, light sculpture and soundscape with a narrative.

Leyla and I were commissioned by Metta Theatre to create an aerial choreography to illustrate the latest research in Epigenetics, at the Evening Standard's event celebrating the 1000 most influencial Londoners of 2014.

 

 

The event was hosted by the Wellcome Trust, at the Francis Crick Instite's newest building...

I am really looking forward to returning to my univeristy town to teach a day of silks in Falmouth next month! 

 

Whilst studying English at Falmouth, I worked with Circo Kernow and Swamp Circus as a performer, teacher and choreographer. I still return to work with them regularly, travelling from London to teach in Falmouth, perform at the Eden Project and at a local events.

 

The classes on 26th October shall focus on giving students skills and knowledge which they can use in their ongoing training. I started the school year with teacher training at the National Centre for Circus Arts, where head of learning, Glen Stewart, taught NCCA teachers about injury prevention, the importance of global movements in workouts, correct posture for safe training, and we discussed ways to approach teaching aerial. I plan to teach next month's masterclass informed by this knowledge, looking at effective warm-up and conditioning exercises, stretches and releases specific to aerialists, and to give student...
